Ja’Sion Greathouse named DIII Defensive Player of the Year
Charlotte, NC – Itasca (MN) defensive lineman Ja'Sion Greathouse has been named the 2021 NJCAA Division III Football Defensive Player of the Year, presented by the Marines.
Over nine games, Greathouse anchored Itasca's defense which was among the nation's best this season. Greathouse, a 6-foot-4 freshman, led the nation with 20.5 sacks and three fumble recoveries.
Greathouse's season-long efforts led the Vikings to earn a spot in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) title game and conclude the season on a six-game win streak. Greathouse's most dominant performance of the season was on October 24 in a 51-26 win against Vermillion (MN). The freshman's stat line included nine tackles, 5.5 sacks, three tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, and one touchdown. Greathouse posted two other nine-tackle performances during the 2021 season.
In addition to the NJCAA Defensive Player of the Year award, Greathouse's season accolades include NJCAA Division III All-America First Team selection, Region 13 Defensive Player of the Year, All-Region 13 First Team, and All-MCAC First Team.
