NJCAA announces DIII Football Championship matchup
Charlotte, NC - With the conclusion of the 2021 NJCAA Division III Football regular season and the final national poll, the NJCAA has announced that DuPage (IL) and Nassau (NY) have been selected to compete in the inaugural NJCAA Division III
Football Championship. The Chaparrals and the Lions will square off on the campus of College of DuPage at Bjarne Ullsvik Stadium in Glen Ellyn, IL on Saturday, December 4 at 12:00 PM CT.
DuPage earned the No. 1 spot in the final poll of the regular season with an 8-2 record. The Chaps concluded the 2021 season on a five-game win streak and claimed five victories over NJCAA Division I programs throughout the course of the season. DuPage is led offensively by freshman quarterback Brooks Blount, sophomore running back Darrell Smith, and sophomore wide receiver Lazerick Eatman. Despite strong offensive leaders, the Chaps' deep all-around offense is highlighted by a strong rushing threat that leads the nation in yards per rush (5.9) and ranks second in rushing yards (1720) and rushing yards per game (172.0). On the defensive side of the ball, DuPage is led by sophomore Tom Trieb with 53 total tackles, including 13 sacks, so far this season.
Nassau earned the No. 2 spot in the final poll of the regular season with a 6-3 record. The Lions bring a consistent and efficient offense into the national title game. Nassau leads the nation with 137 first downs and 33 for 96 3rd down conversions. Sophomore running back Jermaine Williams anchors the offense with 508 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 90 carries this season. The Lions also boast a strong receiving core in the trio of Rayshion Bien-Ashe, Maurice Teachey, John Beaubrun, each with twenty or more catches. Nassau's team consistency carries through to the defense. Four Lion defenders have notched more than 30 tackles this season in Ariel DeJesus, Andre Termidor, Jack Winey, and Keshaun Jones.
DuPage and Nassau last faced off during week seven of the regular season when the Lions topped the Chaps 17-15.
Bjarne Ullsvik Stadium has played host to the Red Grange Bowl since 2016.
