NJCAA Weekend Preview: Football
Charlotte, NC – With the 2021 NJCAA Football season underway, two divisions of ranked matchups will occur this weekend as teams compete on the field in hopes of remaining at the top of next week's polls.
Thursday night features a matchup between No. 5 Mississippi Gulf Coast (3-0, 1-0) and Hinds (2-1, 0-0). The Eagles received votes in the latest NJCAA DI Football Rankings after defeating Northeast Mississippi 18-13 last week.
Although Gulf Coast has won 15 of the last 16 meetings with Hinds (MS), the Eagles are a "high-quality opponent coming off a big win." Kickoff is scheduled for 6: 30 p.m. (CT) at Joe Renfroe Stadium, Raymond
In Division III, Minnesota State Tech (3-1) hosts No. 4 Itasca (3-1) on Saturday. Led by NJCAA DIII Offensive Player of the Week, Rondarius Gregory, the Spartans look to continue their climb in the national rankings after receiving votes last week.
Saturday night will feature three ranked matchups in Division I: No. 6 Independence (KS) at No. 3 Garden City (KS), No. 2 Kilgore (TX) at No. 12 New Mexico Military, and No. 7 Trinity Valley (TX) hosting Tyler (TX).
