NJCAA Weekend Preview: Football
Charlotte, NC – With the 2021 NJCAA Football season underway, two divisions of ranked matchups will occur this weekend as teams compete on the field in hopes of remaining at the top of next week's polls.
Thursday night will showcase some of Mississippi's elite talent with four nationally ranked MACCC teams squaring off. After upsetting the fifth-ranked team last week, No. 14 Hinds (3-1/1-0) looks to keep that momentum as the Eagles travel to No. 5 Jones (4-0/1-0).
East Mississippi (4-0/2-0) climbed from No. 11 to No. 6 in the latest NJCAA DI Football Poll and will face off against No. 13 Northwest Mississippi (3-1/2-0). Thursday's battle between the Lions and Rangers will mark the eighth straight meeting where both teams were nationally ranked and the 14th consecutive game where at least one team was ranked, dating back to 2009.
NJCAA DI Offensive Player of the Week, Jakson Thomson and the Red Ravens (3-0/3-0) travel to El Dorado, Kansas, to face the Butler Grizzlies (2-1/2-1) on Saturday. Thomson completed a career-high 315 yards and five touchdowns in Coffeyville's 65-20 defeat of Highland (KS) last week.
In Division III, Minnesota State (3-2/2-2) will travel to Rochester (3-2/2-2) on Saturday. Despite holding strong at No. 5 in the rankings for three-straight weeks, Rochester dropped out of the latest poll after falling to Minnesota West last week.
