On Saturday, December 3, and Sunday, December 4, NJCAA held its second-ever Division I Football Playoff Semifinal games, where No. 1 Hutchinson hosted No. 4 Coffeyville and No. 3 Iowa Western traveled to face No. 2 Northwest Mississippi for a place in the championship.
No. 1 Hutchinson defeated the Red Ravens 38-7. After holding Coffeyville scoreless after the first quarter, the second half of the game was all Hutchinson as the Blue Dragons scored 21 in the fourth quarter. Running back Dylan Kedzoir and receiver Malik Benson each found the end zone twice during the semifinal contest while quarterback Dylan Liable threw for 171 yards. The Blue Dragons, holding the top rank in the NJCAA Division I Football polls during the final seven weeks of the regular season, improved to 11-0 Saturday, and look to finish the season with an unblemished record. Hutchinson last advanced to the national title game in the spring 2020-21 season when the Blue Dragons claimed the championship in Little Rock by defeating Snow (UT) 29-27.
After defeating No. 2 Northwest Mississippi 33-12 on the Rangers' home field, third-seeded Iowa Western advances to the NJCAA DI Football Championship in Little Rock for the second consecutive year. In the first quarter, the Reivers jumped out to an early 16-0 lead over Northwest Mississippi and remained in control for the rest of the game. Quarterback James Graham threw for 126 yards and two touchdowns while adding one rushing touchdown. One of Graham's passing TDs was a 35-yard reception to LJ Fitzpatrick who posted 98 yards receiving in the contest. In the third quarter, DB Will Lee had a 40-yard pick-six to extend Iowa Western's lead. The Reivers improved to 9-2 Sunday and will prepare to face Hutchinson for the second time this season after falling to the Blue Dragons 29-28 on November 12. The program's last and lone championship title came in 2012 over Butler (KS).
