Hutchinson's Dallas earns Coach of the Year honors
Charlotte, NC - Hutchinson's (KS) Drew Dallas has been named the 2020-21 NJCAA Football Coach of the Year, presented by the Marines.
In his first season at the helm of the Blue Dragons' program, Dallas led Hutchinson to claim its first NJCAA Football National Championship in the program's 89-year history. The No. 1 Blue Dragons claimed a 29-27 victory over second-ranked Snow on June 5, 2021, inside historic War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, AR en route to the title.
Dallas led Hutchinson to a perfect 8-0 record this season and a Jayhawk Conference title. Hutchinson was tapped No. 1 in the NJCAA preseason rankings and went wire-to-wire, winning by an average margin of 32.3 points per game. The Blue Dragons completed only its third undefeated season in program history, joining the 1947 and 1969 teams. With the victory, Hutchinson has now won 10 games in a row, the third-longest win streak in program history.
Hutchinson ranked second in the nation this season in points per game, total yards of offense, rushing yards, and rushing yards per game. On the defensive side of the ball, the Blue Dragons were anchored by linebacker Tre Pinkney who led the nation in sacks with 9.5 this season. Hutchinson's defense also accumulated three defensive touchdowns.
Other accolades for Dallas this season include Jayhawk Conference Coach of the Year and Wichita Area Sports Commission Coach of the Year.
Dallas was promoted to head coach at Hutchinson in December 2019 after serving as the offensive coordinator and assistant head coach and tight ends coach for the 2019 season. The 2019 season saw tremendous offensive and overall team success, including a five-week stint atop the NJCAA rankings – which was a first in Blue Dragon Football history.
