Michael Savarese (Pasco-Hernando State) Named DII Baseball Pitcher of the Year
Charlotte, NC – Pasco-Hernando State's Michael Savarese has been named the 2025 NJCAA Division II Baseball Pitcher of the Year after a record-breaking sophomore year.
Savarese takes home the honor after posting an impressive 14-0 record on the rubber with four complete games, two shutouts (6th in nation), 144 strikeouts (1st in nation) and an earned run average of 1.71 (4th in nation). The sophomore Bobcat started on the mound in the title game that led Pasco-Hernando to claim their first world series title.
"Michael Savarese was the heartbeat of our pitching staff this season," Head Coach Lyndon Coleman shared. "Every time he took the mound, he gave us a chance to win. His leadership, competitiveness, and consistency set the tone for our entire team and played a massive role in us bringing home the national championship."
Savarese finished his career at Pasco-Hernando State with multiple school records. He set single-season school records for starts with 18, strikeouts with 144, and wins with 14. Savarese also holds the program career records in wins (23), strikeouts (248), and starts (32). The right-handed pitcher is also among the top 10 in the school records for innings pitched in a season (2nd-110.1), ERA in a season (6th-1.71), innings pitched in a career (3rd-192.1), and ERA in a career (3rd-2.34).
Savarese has committed to play at the four-year level for the University of Pittsburgh.
