Undefeated freshman Landon Gartman wins DII Pitcher of the Year
Charlotte, NC - Landon Gartman of Pearl River (MS) is the 2021 NJCAA Baseball DII Pitcher of the Year, presented by the Marines.
Landon Gartman was the Wildcats' ace throughout the season, throwing the most innings and garnering a perfect 9-0 record while carrying a 1.95 ERA, the second-best in the nation. He also struck out an impressive 12.15 batters per game.
The Wildcats finished the season 36-9 and fell short in the Gulf District semifinal, with Gartman earning a win in the district quarterfinal. The redshirt freshman has signed with Memphis where he will continue his collegiate baseball career.
Avalon on Gartman: "Landon was a marked man from early on in the season, winning the pitcher of the week award four times. You worry about how these young men are going to handle success. He handled this success and bullseye as well as any player that I've ever coached. I think he did so well because he has a very humble, blue-collar work ethic. Throughout the year, we continually were amazed at how each week he answered the bell against some of the toughest competition in the country. This is an incredible honor for Landon and very deserved. I'm excited for him, the Gartman family, and our institution as Landon continues to represent our college the right way."
