Alejandro Delgado Wins the 2026 DIII Men's NJCAA Basketball Player of the Year
Charlotte, NC - The standout performer on a championship winning team, Alejandro Delgado is named the 2026 NJCAA DIII Men's Basketball Player of the Year.
Delgado was the engine for this team throughout the season for Northern Essex. In the national championship game, he finished as the game's highest scorer with 16 points and adding 8 rebounds to it. Delgado finished the season on the All-Tournament team as well as a 1st team All-America selection.
He averaged a double-double with 17.9 points and 11.6 rebounds per game. He also shot 54% from the field. The sophomore finished the season with 625 points, 116 assists, and 407 rebounds, 176 of them coming on the offensive glass.
Delgado's 6'5 frame put him on the court as a forward. He was never the biggest in the paint, but he knew how to use his size. Whether it was getting to the rim taking a bump and finishing through contact, or running a pick-and-pop where he found an open jumper at the elbow, he was always putting himself in the best position for the team.
Despite only playing 1 year for the Knights, the Haverhill, MA local brought a trophy home, a huge success for anyone who comes back to their hometown and brings a trophy with them.
