Leons named DI Player of the Year
Charlotte, NC ‑ Malevy Leons of Mineral Area (MO) has been named the 2020-21 NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Year, presented by the Marines.
The sophomore averaged 18.7 points and 9.7 rebounds this season, recording six double-doubles and scoring 20-plus points in 10 games. Leons successful season also earned him the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Two-Year Player of the Year and NJCAA First Team All-America Recognition.
Leons helped lead Mineral Area to 24-1 overall record, a MCCAC Conference Championship and a NJCAA Midwest District title. The Cardinal's lone loss of the season came against Cowley (KS) in the quarterfinal round of the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship in Hutchinson, KS.
The 6-foot-9 forward has signed a letter of intent to continue his collegiate basketball career at Bradley University in the Missouri Valley Conference.
