LSU Eunice's Dawson Willis named 2024 DII Defensive Player of the Year
Charlotte, NC – LSU Eunice's shortstop Dawson Willis has been named the 2024 NJCAA Division II Baseball Defensive Player of the Year.
The 2024 NJCAA DII Baseball World Series Player of the Tournament recipient takes home the award after an impressive season on the diamond, posting a .968 fielding percentage while assisting 144 outs.
"Dawson anchored the best defensive team we have ever had here. We knew when the ball was hit his way it was an out, said Coach Jeff Willis. The leadership he provided as a team captain was immeasurable as he has an energy about him that infectious. He has a great chance to play this game for a long time".
Dawson earned an NJCAA Division II Baseball ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove award and helped the Bengals finish as National Champions at the World Series. Willis will be playing at the four-year level at the University of Oklahoma.
