Joe McKinstry collects Spalding® DII Coach of the Year

Charlotte, NC - After leading the Kansas City Kansas women's basketball program to its second national title in program history, both under his leadership, Joe McKinstry was named the 2019 Spalding® DII Women's Basketball Coach of the Year Friday.

McKinstry led the Blue Devils through arguably the toughest region in the country. Four teams from the KJCCC finished in the top 10 of the final Division II rankings this season. The Blue Devils won their final seven games of the season– six of them coming against ranked opponents, including an 84-71 victory over No. 6 Highland in the Region VI championship game and a dominant 84-59 victory over No. 18 Union County in Harrison to win the second national title in program history.

"I am extremely appreciative of the recognition," said McKinstry. "[But] I truly feel this is a result of our team's hard work, dedication, and ability to come together in order to achieve a common goal. I am extremely grateful to be their Coach."
